Back to School Pep Rally
Presented by ACME
Ron Jaworski and Jaws Youth Playbook (JYP) teamed up with Philadelphia author, Marnie Schneider, to host a “Back to School Pep Rally” for the Police Athletic League (PAL) kids that will prepare them for the start of the school year. Together, Ron Jaworski (better known as “Jaws”) and our community partners provided new Book Bags thanks to Tools for School, Books donated by Marnie Schneider and Lunch Boxes filled with healthy snacks courtesy of ACME.
Literacy rates been down, and childhood obesity rates have tripled in the last three decades in the US. Since schools went all-virtual in Philadelphia last year, students in the earliest grades are struggling to keep up academically, new data shows. Joined by SWOOP and the Eagles Cheerleaders, Jaws and Marnie spoke to kids about how staying educated, physically active and having a healthy balanced meal will help you get to your dream career. The PAL students had “Storytime with Jaws and Marnie” as they read out loud Marnie’s 20-page book “Football Freddie & The Fumble Dog” that highlights major landmarks in Philadelphia such as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Marnie’s book teaches kids about key events in Philadelphia’s history by making it fun and tying the story to the City of Brotherly Love’s passion for football.
