First Bike Traffic Park
Jaws Youth Playbook has partnered up with the Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition to help build the “Lil Philly Safety Village” – the FIRST EVER Bike Traffic Park in Philadelphia! Young children have a hard time finding places to learn street safety especially in cities such as Philadelphia. This Bike Safety Village was created to change that with a kid-sized, colorful park with roads, traffic lights, intersections, pedestrian crossing and bike lanes! JYP was able to donate $25,000 to help bring safety to this much needed high traffic park. The new bike park is located in Hunting Park where Jaws Youth Playbook previously completed two other projects – a multi-purpose turf field in partnership with the Michael Vick Foundation AND a brand new playground.
The Lil Philly Safety Village project was a natural fit for us. Jaws Youth Playbook hosts an annual holiday bike drive in December where we gift hundreds of brand-new Huffy bikes accompanied with helmets and locks in an underserved community. We’ve found that the vast majority of the children who receive the bikes do not know how to ride one. As part of our new partnership, the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia will be educating children on Bike Safety. The 2021 Bike Drive will be held in the Kensington Section of Philadelphia, and we will also be allotting a number of new bikes to the children of Hunting Park as part of our committment to the new traffic park.
