Camden Youths Tee Off
August 16, 2011

Camden youth will have an opportunity to get hands-on golf instruction and to experience competitive play, thanks to a new program kicking off on Monday, August 22.  The “Camden Youth Golf Program” sponsored by Ron Jaworksi’s Jaws Youth Playbook, Rutgers University, South Jersey Eye Center, and Camden County, will allow children interested in golf to receive free lessons, driving practice, and professional coaching throughout summer months.
Future plans for the program will also include a trip to the ShopRite LPGA Classic at Seaview Resort and a nine-hole match at Valleybrook Country Club.

“Some of golf’s greatest and most famous players began at a young age.” says Stephen J. Ripa, CEO and President of South Jersey Eye Center and one of the coordinators of the program. “There is an interest in golf in the City of Camden, and the goal of this program is to allow these children an opportunity to develop skills and understand sportsmanship- two valuable assets for every child regardless of whether or not they follow through with golf.”

The kickoff lesson will take place at 10am at the Camden County Golf Academy. Transportation will be provided for the children by the Camden Division of Child Services.
